Kitchen Hood Fundraiser

A Year Of The Unexpected

Since Covid, we have had financial setbacks, things like decreases in monthly donations, external events like retreats and weddings being canceled, and more. And now to add to all the unknowns and the chaos of this year we have reached a point in the dining hall project, where despite our thoughtful plans, we are coming to you with an unexpected ask. Our initial budget for the dining hall and kitchen included a donated second-hand exhaust hood. Because this large item was donated, it allowed us to save thousands of dollars. Unfortunately, due to a variety of factors, we are no longer able to use this exhaust hood. This is a must-have item in the kitchen as it removes airborne grease, fumes, smoke, odors, heat, and steam from the air. Additionally, it protects from grease fires and will be required to pass final inspection.

We need $60,000 to cover the cost of a new commercial exhaust hood with a fire suppression system. So we are coming to you this 2020 Christmas season, asking for help. If you have the means, please consider giving to this project so we can finish the vision God has placed on Camp Daniel. Every day we will continue to move towards a completed campus for all to access, while providing opportunities for people with disabilities, always knowing this is God’s timing, not ours.

Meals are such an important part of Camp Daniel, it’s where relationships grow, food is shared and memories are made. All of our meals are themed, some themes are in a decade, like our 50s theme dinner, some cultural like our Italian dinner or German lunch, some are just fun like pirate lunch and lumberjack breakfast. Each unique theme is celebrated with traditional music, costumes, fun contests, sing alongs, and characters. We take pride in offering fun activities that everyone can participate in, no matter their ability, and that is exactly what our meals do. We cannot wait to enhance this traditional camp experience with our new dining hall and kitchen. These new spaces will allow for more meal options and higher quality options due to improved kitchen equipment, it will allow for round tables suited for better communication, there will now be room for dancing and shows, better decor and a quality sensory area for our campers with sensory needs.

Why Now?

There has been a growing demand for a facility that better fits the needs of people with disabilities. Camp Daniel has reached a pivotal point where the uncompleted campground restricts us from meeting the growing demand of the disabled community. Approximately 10% of applicants each summer are turned away due to facility limitations at the campground that Camp Daniel rents. These limitations include lack of wheelchair accessibility to the lakefront, cabins, bathrooms, and recreational areas. There are recurring maintenance problems every summer that affect the campers directly. Time is of the essence, as the rented campground is becoming increasingly difficult to meet the requirements of Camp Daniel’s campers.
